| Nigerian Scam - Do Not Fall for It!

Here at AR-Auto.com and other website organizations, we have witnessed number of cases of Sellers being
contacted by individual allegedly from Africa or other such continent requesting purchase of their product.
Here is how it usually works...
Seller gets contacted by 'individual' stating that they have customer (usually in Nigeria) whom would urgently
buy their vehicle (product). Crooks usually offer more money suggesting that the rest would be for shipping charges as
well as payment for his/her service. If Seller Agrees to proceed, Cashiers check is then mailed (FedEx!), You deposit,
and next day they call urging you to send their commission money back to them via Western Union. Caution:
With Cashiers checks, banks NOT always able to tell if it is Valid or NOT. It can take UP TO TRHEE (3) WEEKS for them
to let you know, "Sorry pal, you have -$11,500 in your account".
We would like to Caution all our Members and Guests not to fall for it! - It is Scam!
Here is one of the original Contents of the message:
"My name is stephen cole, sales manager of sunrise autoprocurement company, We are an automobile procurement concern that specialise in the purchase and shipping of vehicles to our numerous customers worldwide.We have a customer interested in purchasing your car mentioned above for the sum of $12,600. We will arrange a pick up of the vehicle once payment is confirmed by you.Please acknowledge the offer and we will instruct the buyer to have the funds remitted to your account as soon as possible.You can call me on +234 80 340 95446
Thanks,
Stephen"
After Offer been accepted, here were the following message:
"Hi,Thanks to you for accepting the offer to sell your car to my client. I
am particularly impressed by the prompt attention accorded the matter
considering the need for us to conclude the deal in a timely manner.
I will want to restate clearly that i am an auto procurement agent
based in Port Novo ,Benin Republic and have a branch in lome township with long years of auto expirience and arrays of clients across the west African coasts.Towards concluding the entire deal and issuance of the cashiers check
there is a slight issue which i believe should not be a problem if i can get
my the message clearly to you. I want to let you know if you will be able
to treat this accordingly and will want you to ask questions if you are
not clear with my explanations.In order to conclude the deal as soon as possible my client has said
he can only be able to raise a cashiers check for the sales of the car and the entire shipping charges of the car from the united states to Africa.This means the cashiers check that will be sent to you will include an excess amount which is $7,400 for the money for the sales of your car, my commission as an agent and the shippers fees for organising a home pick up service from your base down to Africa its new origin, so the check will be in the amount of $20,000 were by you will deduct the cost of car $12,600 and send the balance of $7,400 to my customer via western union money
transfer.You did not need to worry as our prepaid shipping company will come to
pick the car up from your base for shippment to Cotonou ,Benin Republic in Africa .The reason for this shippment method is as a result of the age difference of the car which does not make it directly shippable into Port Novo where the car will be shipped to, and the check will include the fees i mentioned above because the cashier check according to my client is a refund been refunded back to him, and the company making out this refund will only
make it out in one cashier to him, so he is trusting you to handle his
funds with care and honesty and UTMOST confidentiality.>What i want to clarify is that will you be able to send the shipping
charges that i will pay to the shipping company and my commision back
to me through western union money transfer method as soon as the check is cashed and you deduct the money for the sales of your car ?
Please your answer on this will enable me to issue a directive to my
client on the need to contact the company to get the check ready and send it to you with out any further delay .If you agree to assist in this capacity , Will you please send your
contact address address where my client should send the check , your name to be on check and telephone numbers so that i will instruct my client to send the check by express priority mail to you. In addition to this i will want you to give me a call on this number to further show your willingness to sell the car for my client and enable me address any questions that you might have +234 80 340 95446 .

This type of scam is called "4-1-9" fraud after the section of the Nigerian penal code that addresses such schemes. You can find out more about it on the Secret Service Web site.
If you have copies of emails from -- or accounts of -- similar encounters, it may be useful to forward them to the Secret Service Financial Crimes Division at 419.fcd@usss.treas.gov.
Anyone who has lost money can contact the FBI and they will assist directly or put you in touch with other federal agencies dealing with African banking scams. Anyone who has been contacted can forward email to Fraud.autoresponder@africaservice.com, which reports the scammers to African Authorities.
